Playing as the final alternate at the inaugural Rocket Mortgage Classic, Nate Lashley made the most of his opportunity, shooting a final-round 70 to cap off an improbable wire-to-wire victory at Detroit Golf Club.
The 36-year old Nebraskan finished his final day in the Motor City with four birdies, two bogeys, and 12 pars en route to a 25-under par total, six clear of Doc Redman (67), who himself was Monday qualifier.
For the win, Lashley earned $1,312,000 and 500 FedExCup points, while also picking up 46 OWGR points. He will move from No. 346 to 101st in the world rankings – his highest position ever.
Runner-up Redman, meanwhile, earned $788,400 along with 27.6 OWGR points. Redman, who is not even a PGA TOUR member, and relies on qualifying and sponsor invites, wasn’t awarded any FedExCup points (for now). He will land at No. 190 (from 711th) in the world rankings – by far his highest ranking to date.
