Eugenio Chacarra claimed his first European Tour title at the Hero Indian Open on Sunday, overcoming a shaky start to finish at 4-under par.
The 25-year-old Spaniard, who entered the final round with a one-shot lead at DLF Golf and Country Club, stumbled early with a double bogey on the first hole and a bogey on the third. Undeterred, he rallied with five birdies over the next 11 holes, including a stunning chip-in at the 14th that hit the flagstick and dropped for a crucial birdie.
Despite a late bogey on the 17th, Chacarra sealed the victory with a composed par on the 18th, finishing with a 1-under 71 for a two-shot win over Japan’s Keita Nakajima.
“It was a tough day, we knew it was going to be a long day with a lot of pressure and obviously not having the start I really wanted to,” he said. “I know when I play my best I’m one of the best players in the world, I’ve already proved that a million times.”
The triumph, his third professional win, earned him full DP World Tour status through 2027 and marked him as the first Spaniard to win the event.
Playing on a sponsor’s invite after being dropped from the LIV Golf Fireballs roster for the 2025 season by fellow Spaniard Sergio Garcia, Chacarra called the win life-changing, showcasing his resilience and skill under pressure.
“I’m very grateful for that opportunity,” he said, thanking organizers for the invitation. “You guys probably changed my life from today so thanks for that.”
