Jimmy Walker, the 2016 PGA Champion, criticized the PGA Tour for its lack of communication relative to its new the FedEx Fall series.
The 44-year-old finished the 2023 season ranked 124th in the FedEx Cup standings. In prior years, this would have secured his tour card for 2024.
With the new format, however, only the top 70 lock up their tour cards for 2024 while the rest are forced to compete in a seven-event fall series to determine who will finish in the slots 71 through 125, thus securing playing privileges for 2024.
“They changed the rules. It’s been 125 forever. Then it’s like, no, it’s 50, or is it 70? It’s definitely not 125. It’s total bullsh*t, that’s what I think,” Walker said last Saturday after a third-round 69 at the Fortinet Championship.
“I’ve been working for 11 months to finish 124 and it’s like, nope, keep playing. So I’m going to give it all I’ve got. That’s all I can do.”
The good news for Walker is the points carry over, and after a T30 in Napa he remains in the 124th spot with six events to go.
The next event will be the Sanderson Farms Championship in Jackson, MS.
When asked if he had a strategy for the fall, Walker said bluntly, “It’s not a strategy. It’s my job, my card.”
