J.T. Poston opened with a bogey-free 62 to secure the day one lead at the John Deere Classic 2022.

The North Carolina native finished his first round at TPC Deere Run with an eagle and seven birdies, highlighted by a four-hole stretch of three straight birdies followed by an eagle on Nos. 8-11, en route to a 9-under par score.

“It’s obviously why you practice and why you work as hard as you do on your game,” said Poston, who finished second-place last week at the Travelers.

“Any time you can have those rounds where you really get it going low and mistake-free, bogey-free is a bonus.

“It’s why you work at it and why you practice the way we do.”

Michael Gligic was alone in second following a 7-under 64, one clear of Vaughn Taylor and Christopher Gotterup, who carded matching 65s.

“Been struggling a little bit physically and haven’t been putting very well,” said Taylor. “But coming into here I told myself, `You know, I know this course, how to play it. Just go do it.’ That’s kind of how I did today. Just tried not to think about too much and just play golf.”

Rounding out the top five positions on the leaderboard were Ricky Barnes, Denny McCarthy, Chris Naegel and Dylan Frittelli, who were T5 on 5-under 66.
