After opening with a 5 under 67 at the WGC-Workday Championship, Brooks Koepka was asked about playing alongside his former workout partner, world No. 1 Dustin Johnson, and Daniel Berger – his former teammate at Florida State.
Koepka said he had fun, even though DJ – who shot a 5-over 77 – didn’t “play like” the world No. 1 player.
“Yeah, it’s nice to play with them. Obviously DJ’s the best player in the world, so he didn’t exactly play like it today, but you know he’s going to come back out tomorrow and play good,” said Koepka in a deadpan tone.
“And I always enjoy playing with Berger, it’s fun, get some laughs.”
Koepka will enter his second round tied for third, one shot off the pace of Webb Simpson. Berger shot 73 (T44), while Johnson finished T64, and was 11 back.
