Lexi Thompson shot a final-round 70 at Tiburon Golf Club to claim her first victory of the year at the season-ending CME Group Tour Championship.

The 23-year old American star finished her Sunday round in Naples with two bogeys against four birdies en route to a final score of 18-under par.

Thompson earned $500,000 with the victory, and extended her streak to six years (2013-2018) with at least one win – the longest active streak on the LPGA Tour.

In addition to money and accolades, Thompson also earned some serious redemption as it was only a year ago at this very course and tournament in which Thompson memorably missed a two-foot putt on the 18th hole to lose the tournament.

“Yeah, it’s very special. This event in general is very special to me. With how it ended last year, wasn’t the way I wanted to. Of course $1 million helped, but I wanted win the event,” said Thompson.

“Just it’s been a long year. Just the up and downs and just the things I’ve been dealing with, they all kind of hit me this year.

“To be able to end the year like this and just keep on fighting throughout the whole year has meant the world to me.

“Just shows anything is possible. You have to fight through whatever you’re going through.”

Alone in second was another American in Nelly Korda, who posted a round of 71 to reach 14-under par, one clear of a third American in Brittany Lincicome (67) and Korean So Yeon Ryu (68).

World No. 1 Ariya Jutanugarn – who captured the season-long CME points race, shot a 6-under 66. The Thai star finished T5, alongside New Zealander Lydia Ko (68), American Marina Alex (71), and Spain’s Carlota Ciganda (70) at 12-under par.
