The Open Championship kicks off for the 145th time next week, and one of the most infamous Open participants made his Champions Tour debut today.
Jean Van de Velde, famous for this meltdown in 1999 at Carnoustie, teed it up competitively for the first time since 2011 at the Dicks Sporting Goods Open in Endicott, New York. He also expects to make his European Senior Tour Debut later this month at the Senior Open, held at none other than… Carnoustie. Here’s a look at Van de Velde teeing off this week.
Van de Velde has low expectations for these events as he’s only played casually “15-20” times a year since 2011.
It’s good to see Van de Velde back, and if he does find himself in contention, he may want to think about avoiding the water at all costs.
