Marcel Siem posted a 71 on Sunday and then edged Tom McKibbin in a playoff to win the Italian Open.

It was Siem’s sixth career victory on the European tour.

Siem and McKibbin each finished on 10 under before the German birdied the first overtime hole to claim the title.

Siem, who was three strokes ahead of McKibbin after eight holes into his final round, struggled down the stretch, making four bogeys to fall one of the pace. But Siem holed a 22-foot birdie putt to finish with an even-par 71 and force extra holes.

“Holing that putt on 18 was one [of] the coolest moments in golf for me and doing it again in a playoff was fantastic,” said Siem.

McKibbin posted a bogey-free 65 in his final round at Adriatic Golf Club Cervia

McKibbin did secure a spot in the British Open, along with American Sean Crocker, who finished T3 alongside Jannik de Bruyn.
