Rory McIlroy‘s former agent, Andrew ‘Chubby’ Chandler, has publicly criticized the new TGL (Tomorrow’s Golf League), a tech-infused screen golf exhibition league, co-founded by McIlroy and Tiger Woods.
Chandler suggested the league was a way for the PGA Tour to launder money to its top players as a payoff for not joining LIV Golf.
“However they dress it up, they’re giving all these top players the money because they’ve not gone to LIV,” said Chandler. to Prime Casino, an online betting platform based in the U.K.
“It’s all about putting cash in their [tour stars] pockets.”
Chandler was particularly unimpressed with TGL co-founder Woods, who made his TGL debut on Tuesday for Jupiter Links, which lost 12-1 to Collin Morikawa‘s Los Angeles squad.
“Tiger didn’t crack a joke for 20 years when he was winning every week,” said Chandler. “He almost didn’t smile. He now thinks he’s an entertainer.
“He’s got his headphones on, he thinks he’s cool doing this and that and the other.”
Additionally, Chandler pointed out what he perceives as a missed opportunity by TGL and LIV Golf to include female golfers like Charley Hull, which he believes would have enhanced the league’s appeal and authenticity as a team event.
Chandler’s criticism was voiced after the league’s second event, highlighting a divide in opinions about TGL’s approach and execution.
