Graeme McDowell stated on Twitter this morning that he would not play in the Olympics. Following Rory McIlroy’s decision yesterday to opt out of the Rio Summer Games, Graeme was next in line to represent Ireland.
McDowell writes, “I made the decision many months ago, before I was on the team, that I would not play or travel outside the U.S., where my family and I live, in the weeks running up to the birth.”

Padraig Harrington is the next man up for Ireland.
Jason Day, Jordan Spieth, Rickie Fowler, and Danny Willet have not made a decision but have expressed their concerns. McDowell now joins Rory, Adam Scott, Vijay Singh, Louis Oosthuizen, Charl Schwartzel, and Marc Leishman who will not compete in Rio.
