THE PLAYERS Championship tees off at TPC Sawgrass in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida this week.

The 2020 edition was started but then cancelled after round one due to the coronavirus scare. Rory McIlroy won the 2019 edition. The Northern Irishman opened 67-65 and then posted a pair of 70s on the weekend to claim a one-shot victory over Jim Furyk.

It was the first of four wins on the year for McIlroy, who eventually moved to world No. 1 in early 2020. Since returning from the covid break, however, he has not been the same player, and is now ranked outside the top 10.

World No. 1 Dustin Johnson is the favorite this week at 10/1. Bryson DeChambeau, the newly-minted winner of the Arnold Palmer, is listed at 14/1 along with McIlroy.

Jon Rahm and Justin Thomas, world Nos. 2 and 3, respectively, are next at 16/1 with reigning PGA champion Collin Morikawa (18/1) the only other players with odds under 20/1.

World top-10 mainstays Patrick Cantlay, Webb Simpson and Xander Schauffele were 20/1, while three-time major winner Jordan Spieth was 25/1, as was Viktor Hovland and Tony Finau.
