Apparently Matt Kuchar is so excited for the Olympics that he didn’t bother to learn the format of the event.
This is amazing: Just asked Matt Kuchar about Olympics. He thought it was team format. Didn't know individual stroke play. And he's playing.

The Olympics, and the golf event in particular, just can’t win. Barely anyone wants to play in the tournament, and those that are don’t even know how it works.
Golf makes its triumphant return to the Olympics after a 112-year hiatus with an individual format featuring a 60-player field playing a stroke-play 72-hole tournament. Just like in track and field, or swimming, medals are awarded on an individual basis. In theory, we could see Fowler, Watson, and Kuchar on the podium receiving Gold, Silver, and Bronze.
Although in Kuchar’s defense, the last time it was an event in 1904 it was a team format. Perhaps that’s why he’s confused.
Kuchar is paired with fellow Olympic team members Patrick Reed and Bubba Watson in round one of the Travelers Championship.
