Padraig Harrington has been named the captain of the European team for the 2020 Ryder Cup matches at Whistling Straits in Wisconsin.

Harrington, a three-time major winner, has been a vice-captain in each of the last three editions after making six-straight appearances as a player (1999, 2002, 2004, 2006, 2008, and 2010). Four of those appearances as a player (02, 04, 06, 10) resulted in wins for Europe.

The 47-year old Irishman will follow Thomas Bjorn, who led Europe to a seven-point rout at Le Golf National in France.
