Trevor Immelman, the 2008 Masters champion and current CBS lead golf analyst, has been named the next chairman of the Official World Golf Ranking (OWGR).
The South African native will succeed Peter Dawson, who has held the position since 2016. Immelman will take over on April 10, 2025.
The 45-year-old Immelman expressed that the OWGR has been a significant part of his life and career, both as a fan and a professional player. His appointment comes at a time when the OWGR has been under scrutiny, particularly regarding the points allocation for players in different tours, including the controversy surrounding LIV Golf players’ eligibility for world rankings points.

Immelman’s background includes winning five times on the Sunshine Tour, including the South African Open twice consecutively in 2003 and 2004, and reaching a career-high of 12th in the OWGR in 2006. While his experience as a player could bring new perspectives to how the OWGR evaluates and ranks players from various tours globally, many are criticizing the naming of Immelman for his prior criticism of LIV Golf and his allegiance to the PGA Tour, as a former tour winner and now a TV analyst for some of its biggest events.
