Phil Mickelson is the second greatest golfer of his generation. The top title goes to Tiger Woods, of course.

On Tuesday, the 15-time major winner and newly-minted billionaire took the low road and publicly trashed his longtime rival and teammate, saying he “turned his back on the PGA Tour” by opting to chase the money of LIV Golf.

Mickelson said, “I certainly respect his opinion. I have a lot of respect for him. I respect his opinion.

“I think everybody’s going to have strong emotions and opinions about it, and I certainly respect his.”

In the first round of the 150th Open, Mickelson posted an even-par 72 while Woods struggled to a 6-over par 78.
