Two months ago, Phil Mickelson won the PGA Championship at Kiawah Island for his sixth career major title. But the now 51-year old will have to wait until 2022 to add a seventh major trophy after the lefthanded legend opened with a 10-over 80 at Royal St George’s to effectively miss the cut after 18 holes.
Mickelson dropped shots on 3, 4, 5, and 7 and never recovered, finishing with four more bogeys, then capped off with a double bogey on 18 to post 80 – his worst Open Championship score.
The usually talkative Mickelson left the venue without talking to the media.
