Today is the 10th anniversary of the passing of Seve Ballesteros who left this world at just 54 years young. Earlier this week, the R&A and The Open Championship announced they will be celebrating the life of the golf legend with a series of tributes.
“Over the coming months we will celebrate the life and career of Seve with a trio of special tributes, marking the 10th anniversary of his passing, which falls on Friday 7 May,” wrote The Open on its Gram account.
To kick off this salute to the legendary Spaniard, a sand carving was created on the St Andrews West Sands, which abuts the 18th hole at the Old Course, the scene of Ballesteros’ greatest triumph.
“In view of the 18th hole at the Old Course, where he claimed his most iconic victory, we paid tribute to @seveballesteros at St Andrews West Sands,” they wrote.
They posted a second Gram with the caption: “Artist. Fighter. Legend. 10 years on, we remember Seve Ballesteros.”
