McCarron, who entered Sunday’s finale in fourth place, finished his third day at Canyon Meadows Golf and Country Club with offsetting two bogeys with seven birdies and a hole-in-one on the 14th hole.

He finished with a four-day score of 15-under par, one better than overnight leader Joe Durant, who posted a 67 to finish T2 alongside Scott Parel (62) aofstting nd Kirk Triplett (65), at 14-under par.

It was the first time in six attempts McCarron was able to defend a title on the Champions Tour.

“It’s so special,” said McCarron, when asked what it feels like to successfully defend a title. “Luckily, I had four chances here this year to try to defend. I won four tournaments last year, so I wasn’t able to do it three times, and to be able to come here to the Shaw Charity Classic, which is truly one of the best events we play on the PGA TOUR Champions, is very special.

“Playing up in Canada means a lot to me with my mom being Canadian, still a Canadian citizen. I first got my start in professional golf on the Canadian Tour. So being up here in Canada really means a lot for me, and to win this tournament twice now is just a dream come true.”

It was McCarron’s fourth career come-from-behind victory on the senior circuit. He earned $352,500 along with the trophy.
