TGL, the “tech-infused” golf league owned by Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy, has canceled its launch for 2024, and instead will attempt a reboot in 2025.

The league has cited an equipment malfunction at its Florida facility for the one-year delay.

The six-team virtual golf league was set to launch in January 2024. A power system failure at the host venue reportedly caused the domed roof to deflate. No one was injured and no equipment was destroyed.

“This decision came after reviewing short-term solutions, potential construction timelines, player schedules, and the primetime sports television calendar,” the statement said.

“Despite this new timeline for the venue, we remain excited about the future of TGL and will continue to build excitement between now and the start of the season with our players, fans and teams. We have begun to update plans and timelines and are confident that the extension will only improve our delivery.”

TGL is a partnership between TMRW (Tiger McIlroy Rory Woods) Sports and the PGA Tour. Its mission statement is to package golf in a brand-new way: via technology.
