The 83rd edition of the Masters – the season’s first major golf championship – tees off this week at Augusta National.
Headlining will be none other than Tiger Woods, who will make his 22nd start at the iconic Georgia golf course, as he seeks a fifth green jacket.
In one of the early featured groups, the 43-year old Woods will be joined by 23-year old Haotong Li of China, and 24-year old Spaniard Jon Rahm. The trio has a tee time of 11:04 am, local time.
A second early top pairing (11:15 am) will include two of the game’s biggest draws in Northern Ireland’s Rory McIlroy and American Rickie Fowler. McIlroy will be seeking to complete the career grand slam, while Fowler is hoping to get the major-less monkey off his back. Both storylines are prominent in the pre-game chatter. They’ll be joined by young Aussie Cameron Smith.
A hat trick of late afternoon marquee groups will anchor Thursday’s round, including the threesome of Americans Dustin Johnson and Bryson DeChamebau, alongside Aussie Jason Day (1:38 pm).
They’ll be followed by another pair of Americans in Phil Mickelson and Justin Thomas, as well as world No. 1 Justin Rose of England (1:49 pm).
And finally, cleaning up at 2:00 pm will be a pair of three-time major winning Americans, Jordan Spieth and Brooks Koepka, alongside Englishman Paul Casey.
