Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson will tee it up in Las Vegas this Friday for what’s being billed as “The Match.”
The duel between the two legends will include a $9 million payday to the winner, and all kinds of delicious side bets. Despite being downplayed by the media, especially following a disappointing Ryder Cup performance, sports fans seem to be all in on the action, specifically related to gambling.
The cost to watch The Match will set you back $19.99, but with the broadcast offering live odds (match, hole by hole, and even each shot), along with drone footage and on-course live interviews with the players, it may be a worthwhile investment for those laying down some coin. It’ll also be uncensored (so, yes, you’ll be able to wager as to how many f-bombs, and whatnot, are dropped).
Mickelson, in fact, has already wagered $200,000 on a prop bet that he’ll birdie the first hole.
“This event is designed to be a unique experience for a golf viewer, and to have an insight into what goes on with the players to create a production from drone coverage to on-screen gambling to live mics and interaction,” said Mickelson on Tuesday.
“It’s an insight into the game that you’re not normally able to see. That’s why we’ve chosen each decision. It’s why it’s on pay-per-view. We had to eliminate the commercials to have that insight in between shots.”
Bottomline, it promises to be one of the more unique viewing experiences golf fans have ever witnessed.
