Tiger Woods posted an even-par 70 at PGA National in the opening round of The Honda Classic.
Woods, who started on the back nine at the Champions course, made birdies on Nos. 11 and 13 to quickly reach 2 under after four holes. But a bogey 5 on the second hole of the Bear Trap (No. 16) saw the 42-year old Woods turn at 1-under 34.
A double bogey on the par-5 3rd hole was offset by a third and final birdie on hole No. 4 to get back to level par. Woods posted five-consecutive pars going home.
“I felt very comfortable today. I felt like I hit the ball very well,” said Woods.
“It was tough out there. I had to hit a lot of knock down shots, I had to work the golf ball both ways, and occasionally down wind throw it straight up in the air.
“I was able to do all of that today, and so I was very pleased.”
The first-round 70 matched his best opening-day score (2013) in four starts at PGA National.
