The status of the Genesis Invitational at Riviera Country Club after the L.A. wildfires is currently uncertain, according to Tiger Woods. The PGA Tour has been monitoring the situation but has not made a final decision on whether the event will proceed as planned at Riviera Country Club in Pacific Palisades from February 13-16, 2025.
“We’re trying to just figure everything out and make sure that everyone is safe, and we have meetings scheduled going forward,” said Woods on Tuesday after his debut in TGL, the indoor golf exhibition he helped launch.
“But as of right now, we’re not really focused on the tournament. It’s more about what we can do to help everyone who’s struggling, who’s lost homes and had their lives changed.”
Riviera Country Club has not been directly damaged by the fires, but it is located in an area that was under mandatory evacuation orders due to the proximity of the wildfires, particularly the Palisades Fire. The fires have led to significant destruction in the surrounding areas, with thousands of structures destroyed and multiple deaths reported.

The PGA Tour has communicated that their immediate concern is the health and welfare of those in the affected communities rather than the status of the tournament. They have committed to keeping members updated as the situation develops but have not yet announced any changes regarding the event’s location or schedule.
There are discussions about potential alternatives, including relocating the event or postponing it, but no official decisions have been made as of the latest updates. Tiger Woods, the tournament host, has also emphasized the priority of safety over the tournament, indicating that his focus is on supporting the affected communities rather than on the event itself.
“There’s so many other things that are bigger than that,” said Woods. “We have subsequent meetings to try and figure all that out.”
Given the ongoing developments and the scale of the disaster, the final decision on the Genesis Invitational’s status might hinge on further assessments of safety, infrastructure availability, and logistical feasibility in the coming weeks.
