Scottie Scheffler produced a final-round 69 to claim a five-shot victory at The 2023 PLAYERS Championship.
The 26-year-old Texan, who posted early rounds of 68, 69 and 65, got off to a somewhat sluggish start but caught fire on the par-3 eighth, and reeled off five straight birdies. The rout was on. And no one was close. Scheffler signed for a 17-under total.
Tyrrell Hatton, who started the day outside the top 25, fired a 7-under 65 to score a backdoor runner-up finish.
For his sixth career PGA Tour title, Scheffler earned $4,500,000 and 600 FedExCup points. He will move to No. 1 on the money list and 3rd in FedExCup standings. He also picked up 80 OWGR points and will return to the top spot in the Official World Golf Rankings, knocking off Jon Rahm, who withdrew early on Friday.
