On Sunday at TPC Southwind, Will Zalatoris produced a final-round 66 and then edged Sepp Straka in a playoff to claim his first PGA Tour victory at the 2022 FedEx St. Jude Championship.
The Texan’s final day in Memphis, Tennessee featured a scorecard comprised of just one bogey against five birdies to finish on 15-under par.
“Yeah, it’s kind of hard to say “about time” when it’s your second year on Tour, but about time,” said Zalatoris, who oddly takes the No. 1 spot in the season-long points race with just a single win. “Obviously this week was kind of a grind considering the start that I had.
“I love this golf course, I played well here last year. Yeah, considering all the close finishes that I’ve had this year, to finally pull it off, it means a lot.”
For his maiden PGA Tour win, Zalatoris earned $2,700,000 and 2,000 FedExCup points. He will move to No. 1 in the points race.
