On Sunday, J.B. Holmes relied on a low-ball flight to best survive a windy day at Riviera Country Club, and claim his fifth PGA Tour title at the Genesis Open with a final-round 70.
Holmes, playing in the final group alongside Justin Thomas and Adam Scott, was the only player among the final trio to shoot under (or even) par, as both Thomas (+4) and Scott (+5) struggled badly in the tough conditions.
The 36-year old Kentuckian, who’s struggled over the past couple of seasons and lost sponsorship deals, won his fifth career PGA Tour title playing a mashed-up bag of five different brands of clubs. Holmes only clubs/balls in the bag on a money deal were Srixon (irons/balls/hat).
