This week’s PGA Tour stop is the Wyndham Championship – the last tournament of the regular season. The FedExCup playoffs start in one week, meaning this is the last chance for golfers to get into that all-important top 125.

Those top-125 will get to move on to next week’s Northern Trust, the opening leg of the lucrative FedExCup playoffs – while also securing their tour card for next season. Those who miss out will need to find another way to get back here next year.

Despite Wyndham putting up $10 million for some points gimmick that no one seemed to follow, the Greensboro folks were rewarded with a less than stellar field in terms of top-ranked star power (no one inside the top-15), with Webb Simpson (No. 17), Paul Casey (19) and Patrick Reed (24) the only players inside the world top 25.

The bookmakers have listed North Carolina native Webb Simpson as the favorite to take home the Sam Snead Cup this week. Simpson, who enters off two runner-ups in his last four starts, is listed at 9-1. Rookie Collin Morikawa, last week’s Barracuda winner, is next at 14-1, alongside a pair of still-young superstar, who’ve both struggled this over the past season (or so) – Hideki Matsuyama and Jordan Spieth.

Brandt Snedeker, who rode an opening-round 59 to the winner’s circle last year, is offered at 22-1, as is Patrick Reed and Paul Casey.

Because it comes on the heels of back-to-back weeks of a major (British Open) and WGC (Memphis), the field in Greensboro is pretty thin in terms of top-ranked studs, but the few big names on hand will be paired together for the first couple of days at Sedgefield Country Club.

Recent PLAYERS champions, Webb Simpson (2018) and Si Woo Kim (2017) will be joined by Wyndham winner Patrick Reed (2103) in one of the top morning groups. They will be followed by a trio comprised of recent Travelers winner Chez Reavie, alongside a pair of FedExCup champions in Brandt Snedeker (2012) and Billy Horschel (2014).

In the afternoon, a pair of rookie winners, Collin Morikawa (Barracuda) and Matthew Wolff (3M), will be joined by (surprise) Desert Classic winner Adam Long. They’ll be followed by a threesome consisting of two 40-somethings in Paul Casey and Charles Howell III, alongside 25-year old star Jordan Spieth.
