Ten things to know after round one of the 2018 CIMB Classic at TPC Kuala Lumpur in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

  1. Bronson Burgoon leads with a 9-under par 63. It’s the first 18-hole lead/co-lead of his career.
  2. Austin Cook chipped in for birdie on his final hole to sign for an 8-under 64, good for solo second-place.
  3. Billy Horschel, who ended the 2018 PGA TOUR Season with three top-three finishes in the FedExCup Playoffs, continued his hot play by opening with a 7-under 65 (T3).
  4. Scott Piercy, who teamed up with Horschel to win last year’s Zurich Classic, also posted a 65, as did CT Pan.
  5. Justin Thomas, the heavy favorite, and world No. 4, opened with a 6-under 66 (T6) in his bid to become the only player in CIMB Classic history to win the event three times.
  6. Danny Lee made the first hole-in-one of the 2018-19 PGA TOUR Season with a 9-iron from 145 yards on the fourth hole. It was the third ace of Lee’s career. His two previous hole-in-ones: 2012 CareerBuilder Challenge, 2015 AT&T Byron Nelson.
  7. Pat Perez, the defending champion, shot a 2-under 70.
  8. Kevin Tway, who won last week’s Safeway Open in a playoff, also opened with a 2 under.
  9. Tom Hoge played his opening nine holes (Nos. 10-18) at 5-over 41, including a triple on the par-5 18th. But he closed his final nine holes (1-9) bogey-free with four birdies to card 73.
  10. Paul Casey led the field with two eagles: A chip-in on the par-4 first hole and another on the par-5 third. He finished with a 6-under par 66.
