Patrick Cantlay produced a final-round 69 to secure the low net score at East Lake Golf Club and claim the FedEx Cup.
Oddly, the TOUR Championship is not a real tournament, despite being one of the PGA Tour’s two flagship events. It does not award official money to its participants, or even record a winner. Instead, the tournament is a something of a handicapped money-grab to decide the FedExCup trophy and the millions in bonus money.
With the low net score of 21-under par, Cantlay secured the first-place prize of $15,000,000, while Jon Rahm, who actually shot a better gross score, won $5,000,000 for finishing solo runner-up.
In total, eight players were paid at least $1,000,000. Even Brooks Kopeka, who withdrew on Saturday, took home $395,000.
