With a 4-foot par putt on the final hole, Nelly Korda claimed a one-shot victory and Olympic Gold at the 2020 Tokyo Games at Kasumigaseki Country Club.
The world No. 1 shot a 2-under 69 to finish 17-under par, finishing one stroke clear of Japan’s Mone Inami and New Zealand’s Lydia Ko. (Inami took the silver medal after making par on the first playoff hole, with Ko earning bronze.)
“It was very stressful, but I kept it together. I fought pretty hard,” said Korda, standing beside her older sister Jessica, who shot 64 to finish T15.
Jessica added, “This is just kind of like almost legend status that you would get on just as a golfer period, male or female.
“This is just a dream season to have. I hope that it keeps continuing because it’s so much fun to watch it.”
The new Olympic champ celebrated her victory on the 18th green with her sister and fellow Team USA teammates Danielle Kang (-7, T20) and Lexi Thompson (-3, 33).
