Jeff Maggert and Jesper Parnevik teamed for an 8-under 63 to take the first-round lead at the Bass Pro Shops Legends of Golf.

On a day with temperatures in low 40s, Maggert and Parnevik finished with six birdies and an eagle (par-5 8th hole) at Buffalo Ridge.

“It was so cold this morning, I just was going to come out and just try to hit fairways and greens. Really I wasn’t thinking about making birdies, I was just trying to play steady and give myself an opportunity to have some birdie
putts,” said Maggert.

Woody Austin and Mark Calcavecchia were one back at 7 under following a round of five birdies and an eagle.

“Yeah, Woody was solid all day long. I lost a few balls, but we did kind of ham-and-egg it. I lucked in a few birdies on the back, but it was tough, tough conditions,” said Calcavecchia.

“Even when it warmed up a little bit, it was still tough to make birdies out there. All in all, 7 under’s a pretty good start.”

The team of Tom Lehman and Bernhard Langer carded a 6-under 65 and headline a group of five teams at T3.
