Cameron Smith produced a final-round 68 on Sunday at Royal Queensland to clinch his third Australian PGA Championship title.
The 29-year-old Aussie entered the final round with a three-shot lead in his native Brisbane and that’s how it ended with Smith sitting on 14 under, three better than Ryo Hisatsune and Jason Scrivener who tied for second on 11 under.
Smith’s magical year started with a victory in January at Kapalua, besting Jon Rahm in overtime at the Sentry Tournament of Champions. He then claimed his second victory of 2022 at the Players Championship in March at Sawgrass, and then the crown jewel: The Open Championship in July. In August he joined LIV Golf and won in just his second start at the LIV Golf Chicago stop.
The win moves Smith to No. 1 in Pro Golf Weekly’s new Real World Golf Rankings.
