Cameron Beckman shot a final-round 68 to claim a one-shot victory over Ernie Els at the Dick’s Sporting Goods Open, his maiden Champions Tour title.
Beckman’s round was highlighted by five straight birdies on Nos. 10-14 to reach 12-under 204.
“This feels great,” said Beckman. “I had so much fun.
“Getting to play with Ernie and Darren Clarke… how much fun can I have?”
The win earned Beckman full status on the Champions Tour and a spot in next week’s U.S. Senior Open.
Els, who started the final round with a three-shot lead, carded a 72 to finish solo second.
“The only thing disappointing is my second shot on 18,” said Els. “I hit is so far short, and I leave the putt short.
“It’s going to sting a bit. I think I might need to have a couple of beers tonight.”
Retief Goosen (66), David Toms (67), Wes Short Jr. (68), Paul Goydos (68), and Miguel Angel Jimenez (69) finished tied for third on 10 under, one clear of Darren Clarke, who shot 70 to finish three shots back.
