Chesson Hadley finished his 3-under round of 68 on Sunday morning after play resumed at the Palmetto Championship. The North Carolina will enter the fourth round with a four-shot lead over Harris English.
Hadley, who entered Saturday’s third round with a two shot lead, got off to a somewhat slow start, carding bogey on the first followed by 10 consecutive pars. But beginning on No. 12, the 33-year old reeled off four birdies in a five-hole span to reach 14 under.
“Yeah, just, I made a really, really nice 2-putt on 11,” said Hadley, when asked about his back-nine birdie run.
“And then I hit a good bunker shot on 12 and finally got a respectable look, to be honest with you. That was probably my first birdie putt inside 20 feet and I just, I hit a great putt, had a good read on it.
“And then I just kind of was — I hit a great drive on 13 and made a nice birdie there.
“And then the bonus on 14 making a putt from the middle of the green.
“So that was great and we’re going to start tomorrow, I think I’ve got probably a 9-iron or a wedge tomorrow morning when we start and hopefully I can hit one in there stiff and get one more.”
Four back at 10 under was Harris English, who carded a third-round 67 to sit solo second.
Garrick Higgo was next on 8-under par following a 68. The young South Africa was one clear of Dustin Johnson (73), Bo Van Pelt (66), Tain Lee (71), and Tyrrell Hatton (67), who were T5 on 7-under par.
