Last week, Talor Gooch – who is one of the coolest and chillest dudes on the pro golf circuits, was excited to be part of the winning 4 Aces team at the LIV Golf tour’s Portland event.

Teamed with fellow Americans Dustin Johnson, Patrick Reed and Pat Perez, Gooch noted how much energy the team aspect brought to the event compared to a regular PGA Tour event, such as the pathetic John Deere Classic.

“I haven’t played a Ryder Cup or a Presidents Cup but can’t imagine there’s a whole hell of a lot of a difference,” said Gooch.

“This was as cool as it gets. We’ve been saying about it all week. The energy is different. It’s awesome.”

Unfortunately for Gooch, he dared to compare it with the cherished Ryder Cup, which received the expected blowback from golf’s self-anointed elites, including the smug clowns in the media…

… and PGA Tour royalty such as Justin Thomas:

“I’m just blown away by what today is and what this weekend and week has been,” Thomas snarked, ahead of the JP McManus Pro-Am.

“It’s going to be impeccable. The golf course is beautiful, seems like it’s great for spectators. I mean, it feels pretty close to a Ryder Cup today.”

The following day, at a press conference ahead of the Scottish Open, Gooch continued living rent-free in Thomas’ head.

“He’s definitely incorrect saying that,” said a smirking Thomas, who owns more missed-cuts (2) than top-25s (1) at the British Open. “And I mean, some people said things, like I did an interview yesterday or two days ago at JP’s and I compared this crowd’s Ryder Cup; that was in no way, shape or form a shot at him.

“I think he gave himself a shot enough just speaking a quote like that.

“Yeah, you can’t compare those. I mean, there’s no event on Tour that’s like The Ryder Cup or the Presidents Cup until you stand on the tee in France and there’s, what, 10,000 people there and I feel like wouldn’t even be able to get a golf ball on a tee I’m so nervous and my hands are shaking so bad, then yeah, I probably wouldn’t comment on saying that one is like the other because it’s not.”

As someone who was at Whistling Straits (Ryder Cup) on Sunday, as well as Pumpkin Ridge (LIV Golf) on Saturday, I can attest that the atmosphere in Portland was less intense but not by much.

Now maybe because the U.S. team was so far ahead that the intensity level was somewhat muted for a Ryder cup, but for Gooch to get this kind of blowback for such an innocuous statement proves how threatening the LIV Golf tour truly is to golf’s power brokers. These same haughty snobs claim they pay no attention to the LIV Golf tour yet seem to spend the following week critiquing everything that happened.

This recent trash talk from JT comes off an appearance last week on the podcast ‘No Laying Down’ where the world No.5 said he will no longer talk to LIV Golf players at majors.

“I think it’s just one of those things where maybe if I walked past that person earlier and said, ‘Hey,’ or asked how they were doing, I maybe just won’t do it anymore,” Thomas answered to a question related to “bad blood.”

Finally, anyone who claims I am biased, spare me: I have been accused by this site’s editors of having bias in favor of JT, “always promoting him over others.”
