Entering the PGA Championship, Justin Thomas was one poor result away from falling outside the top 10 in the Official World Golf Rankings for the first time since August 2017.
Instead, a thrilling playoff win at the season’s second major lifted Thomas from No.9 to 5th in the latest world rankings.
The 29-year-old Kentucky native has the longest current streak for consecutive weeks ranked inside the OWGR’s top 10.
Thomas, who made his first appearance in the top 10 on January 15, 2017 after winning back-to-back titles in Hawaii. The Alabama alum stayed there for 14 weeks, and after bouncing between Nos. 11 and 15, he dived back in – going from 14th to 6th after his victory at the 2017 PGA Championship. He’s remained there ever since: 237 straight weeks.
Now firmly locked in the fifth spot, Thomas is more than likely to remain in the top 10 through the 2022 calendar year, marking his sixth straight appearance on the year-end list.
That’s what you call elite consistency.
