NBC Sports has temporarily promoted Curt Byrum to the lead analyst role for next week’s Hero World Challenge hosted by Tiger Woods. He will replace Paul Azinger who parted ways with NBC after refusing to take a pay cut.

At 64, Byrum is probably not the long-term replacement. The one-time PGA Tour winner, though, is considered a valuable “company man,” who has assumed many roles while working for the Golf Channel since 2001.

Azinger, who replaced the iconic Johnny Miller in 2019, was reportedly offered a contract extension by NBC that would have resulted in a pay cut.

Woods, who will be making his return to the tour following ankle surgery six months ago, will headline a star-studded 20-player field at the annual event at Albany Golf Club in the Bahamas.
