American John Daly opened with an 8-under 64 and shares the first-round lead at the D+D Real Czech Masters with Thomas Pieters, Callum Tarren, and Gavin Kyle Green.
Daly, playing on a sponsor’s invite, started his round at Albatross Golf Resort with three-straight birdies and added two more on Nos. 6 and 9 to turn in 31. Going home, the 52-year old American made gains on Nos. 11, 12 and 18 to secure a share of the lead in Prague, Czech Republic.
“It’s been one of those years where I’ve been hitting it really good, I’ve just been injured and having to pull out,” said Daly, a two-time major champion.
“I don’t feel great but I got around today and I just played solid golf and it’s great. It feels good. It was just one of those days where the yardages into the greens were so perfect it made it a little easier.
“It was a very comfortable swinging round today and if I can do that every day, the injuries don’t tend to hurt as much.”
