Sergio Garcia won his first major championship at The Masters, beating Englishman Justin Rose on the first playoff hole at Augusta National Golf Club.

On a day which would have been the 60th birthday of two-time Masters champion Seve Ballesteros, Garcia’s boyhood idol, the 37-old Spaniard put to rest the ghosts of 72 previous major-misses and walked off the 18th green at Augusta, just like Seve had done almost 14 years to the day, as a Masters champion, forever.

The win moves Garcia into the top-10 (No. 7) in the world rankings, and, with a big weight lifted off his shoulders, he should be one of the favorites for the season’s three remaining majors.

Along with the Green Jacket, Garcia takes home $1,980,000 in prize money and 600 FedEx Cup points – which moves him to No. 10 on the Money List and No. 12 in the FedEx Cup standings.
