At Colonial Country Club, newly-minted PGA Champion Phil Mickelson shot a 3-over par 73 in the opening round of the Charles Schwab Challenge.
The 50-year old legend sits T88 after day one, but he was none too worried when answering a reporter’s question.
“Yeah, I didn’t play well,” said Mickelson, after being asked if he’s disappointed in not bringing momentum in from Kiawah Island.
“I shot 3-over but… I won the PGA. So.”
It’s almost like he didn’t want to blow off a commitment to tournament organizers after his surprise win. But would not mind – in the least – continuing his PGA party after a missed cut on Friday night.
Our prediction: Take the over tomorrow. Phil will be on a plane to Cali tomorrow night, and tweeting half drunk stuff all weekend.
