Rumors have been circulating about Tom McKibbin potentially joining LIV Golf as part of Jon Rahm‘s Legion XIII team.

Multiple sources have reported on these rumors, with some indicating that McKibbin might be forgoing his recently earned PGA Tour card to make the move to the upstart league.

McKibbin, himself, has not confirmed or denied the rumors, choosing instead to focus on the DP World Tour’s Team Cup event in Abu Dhabi, where he is part of the Great Britain and Ireland team, captained by Justin Rose.

This potential move would mark him as one of the younger talents transitioning to LIV Golf, despite his previous comments about wanting to play on the PGA Tour. The situation suggests a complex decision for McKibbin, balancing career ambitions with immediate lucrative offers.

The move would particularly sting Rory McIlroy, who McKibbin has said he considers his mentor. McKibbin is from the same golf club (Holywood Golf Club) as McIlory. The world No. 3. made sure to seek out McKibbin and congratulate him for earning his PGA Tour card after the DP World Tour Championship in Dubai, which McIlroy won.

“I was looking at the leaderboard, and I saw Tom got in the top 10, and I thought okay, good, and when I was walking off the last, I didn’t see his name, and I see him before I signed my card and he was congratulating me, and I didn’t want to ask – I said, ‘Yay or nay?’ And he said, ‘Yes,’” said McIlroy.

“I’m happy for him. That was a massive goal for him was to get one of those ten cards and go play in America. Super happy for him…. I think Europe has a lot of good young players and that obviously bodes well for the future for European golf for Ryder Cups.”
