Jon Rahm withdrew from the Players Championship on Friday morning, minutes before the start of the second round at TPC Sawgrass. The world No. 1 cited a stomach illness, according to the PGA Tour.

The Spaniard opened with a 71 (-1) on Thursday. He was part of the PGA Tour’s marquee grouping, which also included Rory McIlroy and Scottie Scheffler.

With Rahm out, Scheffler, the world No. 2, can regain the top spot if he finishes in the top five, according to the PGA Tour-managed OWGR. The Texan is T5 following a day-one 68 (-4).

McIlroy struggled to a 76 (+4) and has some work ahead of him just to make the cut.
