Kansas Renames Golf Facilities in Honor of Jayhawk Alum Gary Woodland

Just days after undergoing brain surgery, Gary Woodland received news that the golf complex at his alma mater will have his name in the marquee.

The University of Kansas announced on Wednesday that it will rename its golf practice facilities after the only Jayhawk to win the U.S. national golf championship.

The Gary Woodland Golf Complex includes a “conglomeration of practice holes, driving range and putting facilities that the men and women’s golf teams use.”

The Topeka native, who resides in Lawrence, graduated from KU in 2007. He owns four PGA Tour titles, highlighted by the 2019 U.S. Open at Pebble Beach.

“He has been incredibly supportive of the golf program,” Chancellor Douglas Girod said in a statement.
