Langer Maintains Lead at Insperity Invitational

At TPC Woodlands, Bernhard Langer followed up a 63 on Friday with a 72 on Saturday, but it was enough to maintain a one-shot lead heading into Sunday’s final round of the Insperity Invitational.

Langer finished his second day at the Woodlands with two bogeys offset by a pair of birdies, good for the 36-hole lead.

“Yeah, it was a tough day. The wind was up and the pins were difficult at times. I just didn’t make as many birdies. I played really good actually for the most part,” said Langer.

“Missed a really short one there on 17. Actually, three-putted from 12 feet or so for that. That one hurt. Otherwise, I played pretty solid, just didn’t get much going.”

One shot back at 8-under par was Tom Pernice Jr. who shot a bogey-free 4-under on Saturday to sit T2, alongside Mark Calcavecchia (69), Miguel Angel Jimenez (69), and Scott Dunlap (70).

Bart Bryant carded a five-birdie 67 to move 21 spots up the board to join Jeff Maggert (71) at 7-under par.

The day’s low round was carded by reigning U.S. Senior Open champ Kenny Perry, who signed for a 7-under 65. The 57-year old Kentucky native finished his round with 11 pars and seven birdies, including four-straight on hole Nos. 14-17 to sit T8 at 6 under.

Defending champion John Daly struggled to a 77 and sits T69 at 5-over par.

QUOTABLE

“Got to go a little lower than I did today. Got to go in the 60s, I think. Yeah, I let a lot of people back in the tournament, so it could be a shootout tomorrow. We’ll see.”
