LIV Golf has introduced a significant format change for the 2025 season opener in Saudi Arabia at Riyadh Golf Club.
For the first time, all four scores will count in each round for every team throughout the tournament. In 2022 and 2023, teams used the top two scores in the opening two rounds, with three scores being used for the third and final round.
In 2024, they increased it to three scores in the opening two rounds and four in the final round.
This adjustment is intended to increase drama and volatility on the team leaderboard, putting more pressure on every player to perform well for their team across all three days of competition.

“I like it. I like it,” said Jon Rahm, whose Legion XIII team appears to be the most talented.
“I think it benefits a team like ours. I think we have four really strong players that are really consistent. So I think it’s better for the league in general for everybody to matter every single day because Sunday is usually really, really fun. At least last year it was incredibly fun in that regard.”
Said RangeGoats GC Captain Bubba Watson: “It does make volatility bigger, crazier. Nobody can hide. You’re going to have to be committed on every hole, every shot.”
This change was announced just before the season’s start, emphasizing LIV Golf’s aim to make the competition more engaging and intense from the outset. The decision comes alongside other notable updates for the season, including new players, venues, and a new broadcasting partnership with FOX Sports.
