The LPGA canceled the Fir Hills Seri Pak Championship, formerly titled the L.A. Open, scheduled for March at Palos Verdes Golf Club in a suburb southwest of Los Angeles.
The unusual announcement came after the event’s underwriter failed to make payments for both the 2024 and 2025 editions.
Last year Fir Hills, an investment firm based in Silicon Valley, signed up for a multi-year agreement as the event’s title sponsor. LPGA legend Seri Pak (formerly Se Ri) came on board as the tournament host. Nelly Korda won the 2024 edition.
The tour is currently working with the title partner, Fir Hills, and tournament host Se Ri Pak to explore future options.
“We apologize for the impact this has on our players, as well as on our fans, partners and volunteers. We also want to express our heartfelt gratitude to the staff and members at Palos Verdes Golf Club, Palos Verdes Estates, and tournament operator, Outlyr, for their exceptional partnership and hospitality,” said interim LPGA commissioner Liz Moore.
“It is our intention to return to Palos Verdes in the future to host title sponsor, Fir Hills, once again alongside these great partners. We remain dedicated to bringing this event back to our schedule to honor the incredible legacy of Seri Pak, who has been a wonderful ambassador for the game and this event.”
The loss of a $2 million purse from the schedule is a significant blow to the LPGA as it comes amid an already turbulent time for the LPGA.
