Lucas Glover headlined a list of nine golfers who were added to the 2025 Masters field based on their rankings in the final Official World Golf Ranking (OWGR) of 2024.
Glover had fallen outside the top 50, to No. 51, in early December after a T30 finish at the RSM Classic. Yet, because the ranking is based on a secret gimmicky formula, which measures performance over a two-year period, Glover ticked up to No. 50 despite not playing for a month and losing points. He barely edged Cameron Davis (51) and Chris Kirk (52), who had already qualified – Davis by winning in 2024 and Kirk by making it to East Lake.
Glover was joined by marquee names such as Tom Kim, who at No. 21 was the highest-ranked player not yet qualified, and former world No. 1 Jason Day.
These golfers qualified by finishing within the top 50 of the year-end rankings, and who otherwise had not yet qualified – a key criterion for Masters Tournament invitations.
Here’s the full list of players who qualified with a year-end top-50 position in the OWGR:
- Tom Kim (No. 21)
- Nick Dunlap (32)
- Max Greyserman (35)
- Rasmus Hojgaard (39)
- Jason Day (37)
- Corey Conners (41)
- Denny McCarthy (44)
- Min Woo Lee (49)
- Lucas Glover (50)
It was the second straight year McCarthy and Lee earned spots in the Masters through the year-end world ranking. Neither has won on the PGA Tour.
The Masters has the smallest field of the four majors, and Augusta National prefers to keep it below 100.
The addition of the nine players brings the field to 85 players for the 2025 edition at Augusta National. The Masters had 89 players in 2024.
The Masters will continue to add to the field via exemptions below:
- Latin America Amateur Championship winner
- Winner of one of the 14 weekly PGA Tour events ahead of the Masters, January-April, who otherwise have not yet qualified.
- Top 50 from the world ranking published on March 31 (who are not already qualified).
- Special invitation: generally a deserving player from the LIV Golf League, DP World Tour or the Asian Tour.
