Ludvig Aberg opened with a 9-under 63 on Wednesday at Torrey Pines and will take two-shot lead over Danny Walker (65) and Hayden Springer (65) into the second round of the Farmers Insurance Open.

The 25-year-old Swede holds a first-round lead on the PGA Tour for the first time in his young career. Aberg played the easier North Course at Torrey Pines and hit 16 of 18 greens in regulation while making eight birdies and an eagle.

“I like when you hit a lot of drivers, and I feel like I did that a lot today, and probably going to do the same tomorrow,” said Aberg. “(I love) any golf course when it looks like this, when you have the views, and Torrey Pines is a really, really cool place.”

Walker, meanwhile, posted the low-round score (65) on the much tougher South Course, where the scoring average was 72.487 compared to 70.218 on the North.

Walker and Springer were tied for second, one shot clear of Lanto Griffin, Zac Blair, Zach Johnson and Aldrich Potgieter — all of whom shot 66 on the North course.

Hideki Matsuyama, the world No. 4-ranked player shot a 68 on the South track.
