Lydia Ko made birdie on the final hole at St Andrews’ Old Course to post 69 and claim a two-shot victory at the AIG Women’s Open.
Ko began the day three shots back of 54-hole leader Jiyai Shin at 4-under, but after a Sunday battling two of the LPGA’s top stars, along with the wet and windy weather, it was Ko hoisting her third career major trophy.
Ko finished with four birdies against just one bogey to sign for a 7-under par scorecard, two clear of Nelly Korda (72), Lilia Vu (73) and Ruoning Yin (70).
“It’s been a crazy past few weeks,” said Ko, who recently won the gold medal at the Olympics. “Something that was too good to be true happened, and I honestly didn’t think it could be any better, and here I am as the AIG Women’s Open Champion this week.
“Obviously, being here at the Old Course at St Andrews, it makes it so much more special. I just loved being out there this week.”
