Matt Wallace Wins Third Title of 2018 at Made in Denmark

COPENHAGEN (PGW) – Matt Wallace emerged from a four-man play-off to capture his third European Tour title of the season at the Made in Denmark.

Wallace birdied five of his final six holes en route to a 67 and a four-day total of 19 under, alongside compatriots Steven Brown, Jonathan Thomson and Lee Westwood.

In overtime, Wallace made birdies both times on No. 18 to claim his fourth European Tour win at Silkeborg Ry Golf Club.

South Africa’s Erik van Rooyen birdied three of his last four holes to card a 65 and finish solo fifth at 18-under par, one ahead of local favorite Lucas Bjerregaard, who signed for a 66, highlighted by a chip-in eagle on No. 12.

Meanwhile, Bjerregaard’s countryman Thorbjorn Olesen sealed his spot on the European Ryder Cup team by posting a 68 to finish 11 under par and edge Matthew Fitzpatrick (67) for the final spot.

The Dane will join Tommy Fleetwood, Tyrrell Hatton, Rory McIlroy, Francesco Molinari, Alex Noren, Jon Rahm and Justin Rose in Paris France.

Thoams Bjorn will name his four Captain’s Picks on Wednesday and Wallace made a strong case for consideration after winning his fourth trophy in just 15 months, and in just 45 European Tour starts.

“I’ve stepped up to the mark and I’ve shown him exactly what I’m about,” said Wallace. “If he doesn’t pick me then that’s absolutely fine but if he does, he knows he’s going to get exactly that in his team.

“I set myself positions where I have to do things and, more often than not, I get it done. I’m very fortunate to have done it when I needed to in a few tournaments now.

“When my back’s against the wall, I don’t shy away from pushing myself off there and trying to get the job done and I kept saying to myself at the end there, ‘you can make this, you have done everything to be able to make this putt’, and I did it. Super happy.”
